from CMT Radio Network Phil Vassar wrote his new song “I Would” while in Las Vegas just after his divorce. He wrote the song in his hotel room on his piano, but didn’t have a recorder with him. (Cut #2) “So I called my house and I played it on my answering machine. And when I got home four or five days later I was going through my messages and then I went, ‘What is this?’ (laughs) I thought it was one of those ‘you’re on hold,’ kind of music. And then I figured out it was a song I had just written.” The idea for the song came from a conversation he had with a man about the things he wishes he would have done differently in his marriage. He says he knows there’s nothing he can do about his mistakes now. All he can do is learn from them. |

from the Point Pleasant Register The 2008 Mason County Fair rocked out to an amazing end as country superstar Phil Vassar delivered a stellar performance. Vassar, the headlining act for this year's fair, said his goal for the show was to let people have a good time. “I want the crowd to jump up and down and have a good time. I want the audience to be part of the show,” Vassar added. And the crowd certainly did have a good time as they sang along and enthusiastically cheered for Vassar and his band. Cheri Jodon of Clifton particularly enjoyed Vassar's performance. “It was an awesome show. He was just fantastic. I could have stayed and listened to him all night,” Jodon said. Vassar described his current tour as including several fair venues and said he was excited to play for the Mason County Fair. “This summer we have had a lot of festivals and fairs. It has been a great summer with the new album and new hit (single). It has been a good time,” he added. |

| Musikfest Review: 'Late Night,' Musikfest all in a day's work for Vassar Friday, August 08, 2008 - 04:03 PM |

By Keith Groller | Of The Morning Call An appearance on "Late Night with David Letterman" in New York City led to Phil Vassar being a half-hour late for his scheduled concert Thursday night at Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Center, a show that was part of Musikfest's Performing Arts Series. But the near capacity crowd didn't mind the wait. The later start just allowed them to party deeper into the night with Vassar as the 44-year-old singer-songwriter delivered a rousing one-hour, 40-minute set that included all of his hits and several that he wrote for other artists. Despite the rush to get from NYC to Bethlehem -- Vassar said that helicopters were used -- there was no signs of fatigue from Vassar or his five-piece band as they delivered a high-energy show performed in front of a colorful and ever-changing set of video screens. |
